A Changed Heart

Today we are probably fervently praying for other’s hearts to turn to Christ. Tears may stream down our faces as we think about the state of their souls, but only Christ can bring about the process of salvation. We can intercede, we can warn…but fundamentally it is up to each individual to heed, or disregard, Christ’s call.

The Book of Joshua presents clearly the concept of individual choice. It speaks specifically of the worship of false gods:

Joshua 24:14 KJV

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.

The Lord does not force anyone to follow him. Circumstance often creates the desire for Christ.

I make mention of Jesus’ parable of The Prodigal Son in a lot of my writings. It is probably my favorite parable as it clearly demonstrates God’s love for us. We see the repentant son as he returns to his father, after receiving a changed heart. He is anxious, fearing rejection after having squandered his inheritance. His father’s reaction, however, is one of absolute love and forgiveness:

Luke 15:21-24 KJV

21 And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son.

22 But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet:

23 And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry:

24 For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

As Christians, we all should rejoice like Jesus when we see a changed heart coupled by a godly walk. We should be genuine in this action; not thinking, or speaking less of any person due to a former reputation. We should also not call to mind their past actions.

Let’s welcome each of our new brothers and sisters the way Christ would; with prayer and thanksgiving. Let us rejoice in each saved soul.
