A Big Christian “No-No”

Words hurt. They cut deeply and their effects are often lasting. Those who deliberately delight in slandering others concerning their appearance, words or actions place themselves in danger of God’s severe judgement. They are operating under a demonic mindset and are creating an atmosphere of distrust which permeates an entire community and lingers there:

Matthew 12:36 KJV

36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

We all, myself included, have been careless in our words towards others. Slander, however, is an act of deliberate malice, often spread by groups of “believers” claiming moral authority. Passive listeners are no better, as they do not call out these toxic behaviors.

Gossip can spread like wild fire, leaving destruction in its wake. It takes a spiritual toll on both the spreader’s soul and recipient’s self-worth. Let us consider that carefully before we are quick to act in a destructive fashion towards other fellow believers.

The Body of Christ should be uplifters of one another, spreading words of encouragement and kindness. The tearing down of one another only results in spiritual weakness; strengthening Satan’s influence on what should be a Christian mindset. We all thus become victims.

Let’s renounce these sorts of activities. We serve neither ourselves; nor act as an example for non-believers if we do not stand strongly against such acts:

Ephesians 4:15-16 KJV

15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

16 From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.
