A “Good” Laugh

ree

There are many unrecognized blessings bestowed upon us daily. For these, we owe God deep gratitude, despite their relative insignificance in terms of the “big picture” of our lives.

One such occurrence happened yesterday. As I was walking to my car (which was parked at a significant distance), the nearly unmentionable happened. My underwear started slowly slipping down. Most women will recognize the grip of horror which follows the realization of potential public humiliation. I was wearing a dress, without nylons as a protective layer. I was essentially set up for what could possibly be, a most mortifying experience.

It was a sunny day and I was surrounded by shoppers unaware of my upcoming plight. Planted directly in the middle of the parking lot, I had no where to hide. So, as I felt my underwear gradually slink down more, I did the only thing a reasonable Christian could do in such  circumstance – I fervently prayed. As I prayed, God seemed to guide my steps. My thighs tightly pressed together while I took shuffling steps. This odd stride stopped my underwear’s downward journey. No small blessing here. Although it was slightly uncomfortable physically, it definitely strengthened my prayer life lol. Thankfully, I made it to my car, underwear intact. I was nearly sweating from the sheer emotional toil of this predicament.

In retrospect, this was actually quite a funny. I’m sure if my underwear had fallen down, I would have gracefully scooped them up and continued leisurely on my way Well, maybe not so gracefully…lol. My point here is that God helps us in so many ways each day. We may not even realize, or acknowledge the small blessings he sends our way.

I hope my underwear story made you laugh, or at least smile. Perhaps you recognized my reaction in yourself, maybe you’ve even gone thru the same thing. The Bible says we should pray unceasingly. Trust me, if you don’t know the urgency of unceasing prayer, just wait until you feel the impending doom of exposed underwear.

So, go ahead and laugh. God has a sense of humor too! He knows we all need a bit of light-heartedness in these difficult times:

Proverbs 15:13 KJV

A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance: but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
