God’s Little “Nudges”

God is always in communication with his Children. This interaction can take the form of an active response to prayer. Other times this interchange may involve a call to wonder at the beauty of a vibrant sunrise. He also is with us granting discernment regarding biblical passages. In addition, God often uses the unremarkable circumstances of our life to manifest the divine.

Our Father knows exactly what we need, regardless of whether we are yet aware of it ourselves. One day, I was sitting by a pond nearby, enjoying the view. I love nature and receive great joy from watching God’s creatures. That particular day there was a gaggle of geese surrounding several large puddles of water. They were gulping down water somewhat frantically. Suddenly, discernment hit. I hadn’t drank in hours. I quickly grabbed a water bottle; thanking God for this reminder and the water bottle’s ready provision.

God sends us little “nudges” each day to let us know he is with us. I encountered another such “nudge” while driving through an unknown neighborhood. I smiled upon experiencing it. First, I passed by “Vine St”. A biblical reference; but lots of streets have that name. What came next made me laugh in amazement. Directly after “Vine”, came “Cornerstone St”! If I had not been paying attention to my surroundings, I would have missed this divine encounter.

Another day, I was shopping for a dress. I quickly found one in my style. Delighted, I noticed it was on sale. As much as I tried, it would not fit. Somewhat disappointed, I left it. As I exited the fitting room, a nightgown caught my eye. It hung on a rack directly in front of me (not in a sleepwear area) and was precisely my size. I really needed a nightgown, much more than a dress. God is a good provider. Someone else needed that dress. I smiled to myself.

Sometimes we may not feel the presence of God, but he does send us little reminders. We need only pay attention:

Philippians 4:19 KJV

But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
