God’s Warning

Children are often warned of the dangers of fire. They are told it will hurt them. It will create a burn. Wanting to avoid physical pain, a child turns away in apprehension from an open flame.

Our Heavenly Father continually watches over our spiritual health. In the Bible, we are warned of the consequences of our sinful attitudes and behaviors. Some hear this warning, and scoff at it. Others, try to heed it, but inevitably fall into sin at some point. Sin hurts us as well as others. It produces a spiritual pain, an ache in the soul. This also is usually accompanied by the pangs of physical stress. Sin does great harm to those it is aimed at (one example - envy resulting in smear campaigns). It also causes shame and regret to linger in the soul of the aggressor (provided they have a conscience). Most importantly, it creates great sorrow in Our God.

The Bible contains many verses highlighting the consequence of unrepentant sin. One of the most often quoted verses is this:

Romans 6:23 KJV

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

By means of heartfelt repentance, our sin is wiped away.

Through Christ’s infinite mercy, we are made anew:

Isaiah 1:18 KJV

Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Christians are also instructed by God to serve as guardians of the Faith. We are to provide others with loving, but stern, warnings about the danger of unrepentant sin. As we are in end times, this command of God is of particular urgency:

Jude 1:22-23 KJV

22 And of some have compassion, making a difference:

23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire, hating even the garment spotted by flesh.

Fire is dangerous…and scary. Unrepentant Sinners, are warned of a consuming hell-fire. Upon touching the flame of sin, we must call immediately upon the only one who possesses the Living Water necessary to extinguish it – Jesus Christ.

Amen. God’s warnings are always rooted in His love for our souls, not fear or shame. It’s true that sin burns, but His mercy is the Living Water that meets us the moment we turn back, ready to cleanse, restore, and steady our hearts again. Hallelujah.
